Experience

Karen Raymaakers RN, CON(C), is a former writer for Verywell Health covering leukemia and lymphoma. After the loss of her grandmother to breast cancer in 1983, Karen decided to become a nurse and devote her career to the care of cancer patients. During her education, she discovered a special interest in hematology nursing and has been working with that population of patients since. For the past several years, Karen has been a clinical nurse educator in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, educating patients as well as new and experienced nurses about leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.

Education

Karen received her baccalaureate degree in nursing from The University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. After working with cancer patients for a number of years, she completed the Oncology Nursing Distance Education Program (ONDEC) through The Alberta Cancer Board, and received her certification in oncology nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association.
