Tonsils are a part of the lymphatic system. They are located at the back of your throat, one on each side. Tonsils can be seen by shining a flashlight into your mouth and saying “ahhhh” while looking in a mirror.
Tonsils are the first line of defence against harmful germs in our mouth and nose. They help to signal our immune system that a foreign invader has entered the body, and that antibodies should be produced to protect us against infection.
